Readers in the Making: Hands on Fun for All!

Funded Nov 20, 2019

Thank you all so much for your donations for our reading project! The students are loving these new materials so much! Students began to get excited when the boxes started arriving and have only gotten more excited as we have unpacked and began using the awesome activities! The students have been using the new resources already and are absolutely loving them. Students have been reading through the new leveled readers while sitting in our new comfy bean bag chair and lounging in the reading teepee.

One of the students favorite activities so far is the Sight Word Swat game. Student had so much fun finding the words they knew and swatting them. They had so much fun they didn't even realize they were practicing reading! Another activity that our earliest learners love is Alphabet Soup. The students think the 'cans' of soup are so funny and they are loving the pictures included in each. I love this activity because it can be used by all of the students and changed to meet each of their individual needs!

As our year progresses students will be able to develop their reading skills by continuing to practice letter names, sounds and begin to blend sound together. Students will develop sight word fluency through activities like the CVC word building cards, the Nuts and Bolts activity and Sight Word Bingo. Through these activities and continued practice students who are not able to read currently will gain the knowledge and skills needed to become readers. Students who are early readers will build fluency and their sight word knowledge to become more efficient readers!

Thank you again for the continued support in my students and for helping to give them the tools necessary to achieve their goals!”

With gratitude,

Mrs. Wolf
