  • Facilitating Group Discussion With Round Tables: Table #3

    Funded May 10, 2024

Thank you so incredibly much for the new table. I am now halfway to my six table goal thanks to you! I can now get rid of

even more old cubby desks and make a better learning environment! I have so many changes in store for how I teach, moving to a more collaborative setting. Again, thank you.”

    With gratitude,

    Mr. De Matteo

  • Facilitating Group Discussion Through Round Tables

    Funded Feb 22, 2024

I thank you for helping me replace some of my aging cubby desks with tables that will make it easier for group discussion. My students deserve up-to-date equipment that will remove one more distraction from the classroom (gross cubbies with decades of grime), and create a single surface to make it easier for group assignments.”

    With gratitude,

    Mr. De Matteo

Traditional school sports and clubs are no longer enough for the 21st century student. Our school recently joined a pilot program for e-sports (video game competitions), but e-sports require equipment. Traditional school computers were simply not designed with graphics and frame-rate in mind. Our pilot program will compete in "League of Legends" and "SMITE," both games require teams of five using computers designed for gaming. I will first require two gaming PCs to start building our team, adding more computers from other sources, and the iBuyPower ones chosen are good budget entry-level pre-built computers. Through e-sports competition, my students will learn teamwork, communication, cooperation, and connect with people and cultures across the globe. 21st century students need 21st century opportunities, and E-sports are the fastest growing competitive event in the United States, one that can and has earned teams incomes and sponsorships on par with the most popular professional sports. They will gain a better understanding of computers and we plan to tie our e-sports league with a burgeoning coding curriculum at our school. My students love gaming and too many teachers and parents simply don't understand what gaming can provide. E-sports will help foster that greater understanding.
