  • Hands-On Math!

    Funded Apr 3, 2015

First I want to say, Thank you for your donations. My students were so excited about the new clocks and cash register. The cash register was a huge hit and students started to use it as a bank while playing the game Allowance. The chase register is being used almost on a daily basis and it is great to see the students give one another change out of the register.

The students were also very thankful for the gaged clocks. They loved that when you moved the minute hand the hour hand also changed and many students said it was easier for them to tell time on the clock. Since we were able to get so many clocks we are able to use them as a whole class and each student has their own.

These materials helped engage students during whole class instruction and during small group. They allow students to work together and help one another out when one is struggling with the concept of time or money. Thank you again for your donations I wish you could see in person they joy on the students faces when they use these materials.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. W.

  • Mathematical Games

    Funded Apr 3, 2015

I want to thank you again for these amazing games your brought into the classroom. The first day they came the kids were so thrilled and just wanted to play them right away. After a day of organizing the games we started on with a jigsaw day, where students got into groups and picked one game that they became experts at. The next day students tried new games as the experts taught them how to play. It has only been one week but the games have been played everyday! They are even choosing to play them over playing on the computer which is awesome to see. I can't thank you enough for your donation and wish you could experience the joy these students are having while playing these games, it is amazing how much of a difference they have already made.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. W.

  • Computers and Space Savers Galore!

    Funded Oct 7, 2014

Thank you so much for your generosity and donation. I can't tell you how nice it is to have more computers in class for students to work on. I am able to have a small group work on the computers without them freezing in the middle of my teaching time. We use the computers daily and students also are able to use word to type writing assignments they may have.

The word chart older has been a great way to post math vocabulary since we don't have the wall space in class. The portable white board is used for small group instruction and it has been a way for students to teach others how to work out a problem during independent work time.

    Thank you for your donation!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. W.

  • Mathematical Computer Games and Computer

    Funded Sep 15, 2014

Thank you so much for your donation. The classroom has benefited from your generosity. The students have become more engaged in math when using the math computer games and board games. They are able to play the computer games on a daily basis and they love how they can share one computer with a partner and play the game together. Some of the computer games are the same as our board games in class so students are able to connect their learning and use both game proficiently. The MAC has also been a huge hit in class, since it is the only one the kids always want to use it. We are also able to connect it to our smart board and use it during instruction. Again, thank you so much for your donation.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. W.

  • We Need A Learning Table!

    Funded Jun 21, 2014

Thank you so much for your generous donation. We all love our new Kidney table, it has provided us with a successful learning area. The teacher is able to engage all students and have enough space for students to work at the same desk. We are able to fit 8 students plus a teacher at the table instead of maybe 4/6 at a little rectangle table we had before. Students have also been using the table during reading time if they find their table mates are being disruptive (it has turned into a safe space for kids). Thank you again for your donation!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. W.

  • Mathematics Through Literacy

    Funded Apr 17, 2014

Thank you so much for your generous donations to the classroom. My students and I were so excited to get more books about math. After reading a couple the kids we're very engaged and wanted to read more then just the one a week. They loved how they could solve problems during the story. I love how different students can connect with the stories and share their own experiences, this has allowed them to see that math isn't just about answering a problem correct but they can use math in their everyday lives. For example, their is a book about students selling lemonade, well one of my students said they had a garage sale and when he added the money to see how much he made he had so much fun and didn't realize that adding the money together was considered a math skill.

The year is now over and we didn't get to read all the books, however I know I will be able to get through all of them next year and I hope they are as much as a hit as they were this year.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. W.

  • We Need Computers!

    Funded Nov 27, 2013

    Dear Donors,

I wish you could have come in when I brought the laptops to school to be a part of the students excitement. When it is our computer time all the students want to use the 2 laptops, even when they have the option to use the iPads they seem to really enjoy working on the computers. We have about 4 other computers in the classroom, however because they freeze all the time students get frustrated and this is a main reason why they would rather be on the new computers because they are not freezing.

The computers are being used mainly for math games and practice testing. I hope to start teaching researching and how students can use the Internet to research a topic, however with state testing around the corner we have not started this process yet.

Having workable computers in the classroom, students are not arguing over the computers and I am not having to fuss around with getting them to work which would take away teaching time. I am not loosing teaching time now and students are able to boost their math skills without having to fuss with the computers themselves and use the whole time allowed to work on program they are using that day.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. W.

  • We Need Storage!

    Funded Sep 10, 2013

I want to thank everyone for your generous donations! When we received the storage cart in the classroom the students were very excited to start organizing some of the games in the classroom. The students got to choose what they wanted to put in the bins and we had conversations about why they chose the materials. Many of the bins have their favorite games so they are easier to access during our math center time. They also used a bin to store National Geographic magazines.

This storage center provides us an organized place to store materials and paper, which makes it more accessible for students to access during class. On the top of the storage cart are files where students file their work when they are done. These used to be stored under a table on the floor and students hated bending down to file their papers. Thank you everyone for providing more space for our classroom in an organized fashion:)”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. W.

  • Bring Technolgy into the Classroom

    Funded Dec 19, 2012

I can't express how thankful my students were for your generous donation of the iPads! Every student uses them every day for at least 10 minutes during small group time to help them enhance their math skills. During Silent reading students are also able to use them to read ebooks that I have bought for them to read on the tablets. The kids absolutely love them and can't wait to get their hands on them everyday. It is amazing how engaged they are in their learning when they are using them. I have seen my kids math facts skills grow and also many of my students have grown in time and counting money. Thank you so much for helping me grow my students mathematical skills so they can become proficient learners to better their future.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. W.

  • Technology Fun!

    Funded Oct 9, 2012

I can't thank everyone enough for your generous donations! When the iPad got delivered to the classroom the students were thrilled! They all wanted to play on it right away. I only had one at the time so students had to be patient, but it has been used at least 4 times a week by 8 children every day. I saw how engaged the students where and how there math facts were getting faster I decided to try and get more for the class so more students could benefit.

The iPad is set up with math games and reading books for the kids. They absolutely love them! They never ask to play games not related to education, all they want is to have more time to play the educational games. They are not only learning to play games using the tablets but they are learning to be responsible. It is the students job to make sure that the tablet is put back into the box and when it needs o get charged they charge it. They are very careful with the tablet because they know if they break it they will not be able to use it anymore.

Thank you again for your donations!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. W.

My students are a diverse group of caring, hardworking kids. I have Latino's, African Americans, Chinese, Japanese, and Vietnamese students that are all at school to work hard no matter what is happening at home. Most of my students go home, watch T.V. and don't ever go outside and visit new places that are just around the corner. My students come from a low-income area, most kids are on free lunches. Although some come from a tough home life they come to school everyday eager to learn and do something new and creative. My students love being able to draw with the materials that we have (which consists little of colored pencils, crayons and markers). If my students where able to touch paint, explore with it and then start making art work with the paint I know that they would be ecstatic!
