Let's Build a Garden!
Funded Sep 30, 2016Thank you so much for your generous donation! It took awhile to get the garden up and running due to a cold winter, however we have started it and we are getting new starters and seeds planted for an end of the year treat! It was amazing how excited students were to just get the soil and break it up. They were having a blast! Next students started to plant seed starters and the seeds. We did seed starts because we are starting to late in the season and we wanted to make sure students could see the whole process of plant growth and get the opportunity to decide what they want to do with their grown veggies. Thanks again for your support and donation!”

Funded Nov 29, 2016Thank you so much for the Lego Materials! Students are building these sets during one of their math rotations as an engineering center. Students get a choice to build with their classmates or use the commuter to do their math games. Students are choosing to build the lego sets together! It is amazing to watch and listen to them talk to each other about each step. It is also great watching them help each other construct these pieces and working with each other to find all the pieces (especially the small pieces). Thank you so much for your donation! The students are very thankful for your generosity.”

Materials Needed for the Classroom
Funded Mar 9, 2016Dear #BestSchoolDay gave in honor of Paul G Allen,
Thank you so much for your generous donation of the classroom materials. These materials have helped students stay organized, along with engaging them in their learning. The students are loving their sight words on the rings, this has really helped them get interested in learning their words. They are able to take their words out whenever they have down time and test one another. The students have also loved using their highlighters to find words that we are focusing on in their reading and also to highlight their sight words in their stories. The hold punch and stapler have allowed students to keep their binders organized. Thank you so much for your donation.”

A Book is a Dream That You Hold in Your Hand
Funded Nov 20, 2015Thank you so much for your generous donations. I can't tell express how grateful my students were for these new books. They just love the Elephant and Piggie books and there are rarely any in the book case because the students have put them into their book boxes. Many of the students are also enjoying the Little Critter book and Robert Munch books. Thank you so much for helping my students become more engaged in reading.
I also want to thank you for all the science books. They really helped students make connections with our Science unit on Liquids and Solids, we even were able to do some of the experiments they offered in the books. Students had a ton of fun reading them as a class and now many of them are reading them during their read to self time.”

Get Us Organized and Help Us Count Collections!
Funded Aug 22, 2015Thank you everyone for your generous donations to the classroom. I am now able to have a pencil supply job in the classroom, which the students love because they like to be able to be responsible for sharpening the pencils for the week. I have students that will even stay in during recess for a couple minutes to get them ready for class.
Being able to organize our counting collection items and books into our new bins have made it tremendously easier to stay organized in class and also have made the items more accessible to the students in the classroom.
Thanks again for your donation and support in the classroom.”

Rainy Day Recess Games and Building for Young Engineers
Funded Sep 13, 2015Thank you everyone for your generous donations they are used on a weekly basis!! When we got the new games and activities in the classroom the students were ecstatic.
The kids love all the new games that are available to them during free choice time and rainy day recess. I also want to thank you for the Lego sets, the students are slowly building them as teams and following the directions in order to build the specific lego set they are working on. The sets take them multiple days to build, but it is great to see them working together to try and finish the final project.”

Engage in Math through Technology
Funded Apr 18, 2015Thank you so much for your donation of the iPads! The students love playing math games and reading literature books in small groups with them. They allow the students to be mobile around the classroom.
Also, thank you for the Microsoft Surface Pro. It allows us as teachers to use a portable small computer in our small group. We are able to do work on the surface, save it and use that information the next day to build on ideas. Students have loved using the paint feature on the surface pro because they can draw their mathematical thinking and save it, print it and take it home for their parents to see what they were doing in class that day. Thank you so much for your generous donations.”

Funded Apr 15, 2015Thank you again everyone for your generous donations. I wish you could come into the classroom to see the enjoyment on the students faces when they have the opportunity to pick up one of the games and play it either independently or with a group. Students are so excited to explore math through a different lens. As I sit with groups and listen to students play a game or build a structure I am amazed at the math vocabulary they are using. What I have also loved to see is that when they get to their choice center they are choosing to play with the math games and manipulatives and not always going to the computers. Computers are also a great tool, but the games allow them to work together and learn from one another. Thank you again for your donations they have really improved the engagement in the classroom.”

Funded Apr 3, 2015Thank you so much for helping us add these supplies to the classroom. It has been such a blessing to make math more hands on for the kids and these centers and number line strips have been a blessing. They have engaged students in independent learning and as I walk around to listen to students communicate during the activity they are using vocabulary connected to the activity.
Students are excited about going to their math center and trying out a different activity for the day. They are also having a blast using the number lines. They have really helped students grasp the concept of fractions.
Thank you again for your donations and I can't wait to use these materials year after year.”

Bring Comics into the Classroom
Funded Apr 10, 2015When we received the new graphic novels in the class students wanted their hands on them right away. We ended up having a silent reading session so students could explore the new books. It was great to see the students respond with such enthusiasm. Students have even asked to get more copies of the same books. Everyday the bin of graphic novels is empty during reading time, even my high readers are loving reading the stories.
We have been focusing on how to read the word balloons and the descriptions in a graphic novel. Students are thinking about how the dialogue appears in the books and looking to see, if any, where the narration takes place in the story.
Thank you so much for your donation and I hope to bring more into the classroom soon because the students are eating them up.”
With gratitude,
Mrs. W.
