Flash Mob? Flash Bob Ross! Paint along for 50 Students

Funded Oct 21, 2018

Oh. My. Goodness! We were able to hold our Flash Mob? Flash Bob...ROSS! event this week and it was so amazing. 48 students were able to paint like Bob Ross, while watching Bob Ross, dressed as Bob Ross!

When my students were told about this project, they were so excited and we immediately began putting together costumes and sourcing wigs.

Your donation provided each student a canvas, brushes, paint and paint medium to help them create their own Bob Ross guided painting. I chose Season 28, episode 4 (after doing some research online and watching videos) because it primarily uses gesso and doesn't entirely rely on oil paint to be successful. We used the medium and tempera for the color and they turned out really well! This episode is great for people who don't have access to oil paint.

The day of the event was amazing. Students came in, got their wigs on and got to work! They worked so hard and had great focus...they are always great workers and do well in my class, but I was so proud of them!

We split the day into two parts so that they paintings could dry before we added color. Both painting sessions were great. Busy, focused, and fun.

I am surprised at the attention we have received so far. The event was on a Thursday and I am writing this Saturday of the same week. The local newspaper wrote a story and two TV stations came out to interview us.

Since then, the story has gone all over the US since it was picked up by Associated Press. I am unable to share links at this time but will try again!

Thank you so much for helping this idea to celebrate my students in a meaningful way become a reality. YOU ARE AMAZING!

I also want to thank Smarties Candy Company for matching this project. You cut our needs in half and helped make this super fun, challenging, engaging experience a reality. Now my students are Bob Ross "smarties!"

Best,
