For the last several years, middle school students have been enjoying reading the articles in Scope magazine. These non-fiction articles of CURRENT world events have led to various research projects from learning about the sinking of the USS Indianapolis to the Triangle Shirt Factory fire to caring about the environment and doing an environmental research project. These magazines help to facilitate the discussion, questioning, researching, and writing of current world events that aren't normally covered in our typical ELA writing class. The students always look forward to the next issue.
