Group and individual presentations, sharing strategies, explaining and owning their learning, developing communication skills, and having higher engagement in class, these are the skills my students would be able to develop with the use of an ELMO document camera. A document camera would allow for more proficient presentations during small group teaching projects, math strategy sharing and partner or individual presentations. My students share their math strategies daily while explaining their thinking to the class. This allows for a variety of methods to solve problems, and students to develop communication skills, questioning skills, and presentation skills. I have students work in small groups to learn about a topic and create a way to present that topic to the class. The ELMO would allow students to present using smaller materials, yet the class would be able to see the project as if they were right over it. I have used document cameras in the past, but my camera is no longer supported by my computer so cannot be used. This has made presentations more challenging, however, my students rise to the challenge and find ways to make sure the others interact with the presentations. ELMO would also make presentations available when I am not at school since a computer does not need to be connected. This would allow for continued use and better lessons even with substitutes. My students love presenting, sharing, and being the teacher. This document camera would allow them to be learning how to use proper technology while building communication skills, presentation skills, and owning their learning.
