Students will begin to understand the intersections that exist and identify those that they personally come across on a daily basis. They will get a better understanding of themselves as they read H.D. Hunter's Torment: A Novella where they will discuss race, class, ability, and mental health. Students will be participating in writing workshops revolving around a social justice framework. Students will have open discussions about which texts are chosen to read as part of their English curriculum, how mental health is treated in communities of poverty, and how to actively combat these issues as they progress in their education.
More than ever before, students need help navigating the world by gaining social awareness.
