The classroom listening center will help my students practice reading and improve their literacy skills. My students will be able to improve their fluency, hear and read sight words on a fully contextual basis as well as being introduced to another example of technology in the classroom. A listening center will greatly enhance the learning environment in our classroom.
My students will also improve their decoding skills while listening to classic children's literature, and build their comprehension skills, while listening to informational text in non-fiction books. In addition, the listening center will promote an enhanced learning environment in our classroom. In addition, our students will feel build their confidence and reading skills while learning to read grade level books independently. Best of all, my students will have daily opportunities to listen to books in their second language, whether that's in English or Spanish.
As is clearly evident, receiving a classroom listening center, books on CD and art materials will have an immediate and positive impact on each of my 23 students' lives.
Finally, I plan on having the students' use the art material (markers and construction paper) to make individual art projects based on the stories they hear at the listening center. The project will be standards based whereby the students will listen to then compare and contrast two different stories. Through discussion, we will then cull key details from each story and, ultimately, the students will create an art work using the information gathered from their literary experience.
