Studies have shown that there is a direct correlation between musical training an improved executive function in both children and adults. In my district, not all students can afford an instrument to play, so I want to begin a ukulele program at school so students have the opportunity to have more intensive musical training. My students will get intensive training in how to care for a ukulele, how to read music, and they will learn some basic songs and chord progressions, leading up to a school performance for them to show what they have learned. Their growth in both learning and self-esteem will be an amazing thing to witness throughout the year.
