  • Help Close the Equity Gap in Computer Science!

    Funded Dec 5, 2022

The replacement computers you funded during this project were really needed. The older computers were dying almost daily and the new computers mean I almost have enough for every student if no more conk out,

It is the attainable dream of creating opportunity to succeed for all of my students here in the Bronx. With computers and tech being such an opportunity for my recently arrived students the work you did in providing this resource is amazing.

Thanks for making such a difference in the lives of my students here in the Bronx and creating equity.”

    With gratitude,

    Mr. Pecunia

This classroom project was brought to life by Cognizant Foundation and 4 other donors.
  • Equity Means Access for the Internet

    Funded Jan 20, 2023

Thanks for the support of our school and our students. Your caring nature will help lift our community and computer program reach new heights amd helps to close the equity gap.

The higher speed will allow the students to engage more deeply with the material and enhance the coding experience.”

    With gratitude,

    Mr. Pecunia

  • Gardening in the Bronx. A Flower Grows in the City.

    Funded Feb 25, 2021

We have a chance to plant flowers and fix our garden because of you. Thanks for all of the support and help as we exit the pandemic. It is a real boost to the social emotional well being of our entire student population here at the school.

Without you we could never achieve the great things and offer the experiences we are giving the students. It also changes the entire feel of the building as the students enter. It creates a sense of calm that is often absent in the neighborhoods of the city.

It can be an oasis of nature and really sets the tone for learning!”

    With gratitude,

    Mr. Pecunia

  • An Invasion of Mice in my Class!

    Funded Aug 13, 2019

Thank you so much. The kids are so much more productive with the mice. Coding they say is so much easier and they are all using them. Thanks again for your gift.

Exactly what happens is when the kids come in they go for the mice right away. They have said they wish every classroom in which they use computers had mice because it is so much easier for them.

For me it reduces the problems the kids have with the already difficult class of coding and computers. In fact, I can and have seen a reduction in frustration with the mouse and that allows them to have the creative tension with the material rather than with the equipment. Thanks again for all of your kind donations.”

  • Robot Invasion Brings Diversity to Code in Bronx!

    Funded Jun 7, 2019

It is so great that I will be able to have robots in my school. It will move the process of programming at the school and give the kids a resource that kids in the Bronx and schools in the Bronx do not normally have. Thank you so much.

  • Help Kids Improve Writing for AP Exams!

    Funded Feb 15, 2019

The opportunity to look at your work critically when writing is a boon for AP students and intellectual written creativity and accuracy in the classroom. Your contribution made this possible.

By the end of June most of my entering AP computer students re-written work and developed the capacity to look at their work in a critical way. This is so important for my students as they head off for college and it was of great impact for the AP English class that shares my room first period.

Because of your donation I was also able to leverage the school into an AP for all school. In fact we are where most schools are after 3 years of a program in our 1st year. So you have helped to propel equity among people of color, women, and people in poverty all at the same time. You should be proud of the opportunity you have given these children, the Bronx, and the future coders of America.”

    With gratitude,

    Mr. Pecunia

  • The Bronx Has Python(S), or Kids That Can Code!

    Funded Nov 27, 2018

The opportunity to code in Python this semester has been a fantastic opportunity. Most of the kids did not even know what the word python meant other than a snake before your contribution made this possible.

By the end of June most of my entering computer students will have built their first phone application and a web page to showcase their work. It has without a doubt been your support that has made this possible.

Because of your donation I was also able to leverage the school into an AP for all school. In fact we are where most schools are after 3 years of a program in our 1st year. • Wireless for Computers to Level the Playing Field!

    Funded Oct 17, 2018

The wireless if hooked up now is amazing. I can have every kid hooked up to the wireless and everyone can now code. In fact, it is 8 to 9 times faster than the old wireless and the effect is amazing.

We were able to live stream events during computer science week and nobody has experienced latency effects in the room at all. It is making the experience of coding and learning better in my classroom and the kids are feeling very thankful to you.

As soon as I can get pictures I will add them here. Thank you so much for changing the experience of coding for my kids here in the Bronx.”

    With gratitude,

    Mr. Pecunia

We have the computers but can't connect to the internet because it is too slow and con't handle our multiple connections. When more than 5 computers get online everything slows to a crawl, and we all get frustrated that we can't complete our coding tasks. One wireless router would solve this problem for my 100 students that can be our future engineers. The router would allow us all to connect to the internet . This would also allow us to expand our computer offerings to clubs and to increase the number of children we could impact each day. Thank you!
