Students love to have a choice. They love being able to choose partners and groups, to have choice in assignments as well as choosing their seats. When this project is funded, it will allow me to add a flex-space mobile standing desk for 2. We currently have 2 single standing desks in our classroom and they are by far the most sought after seating choices in our classroom. Students love the ability to sit or stand while they are learning. Many studies and teachers have found that by allowing flexible seating in the classroom, their students focus on work increases. Veridesk Education states that "there has been research conducted that proves children can burn up to an additional 15% of calories just by standing instead of sitting." The addition of another standing desk option will allow 2-3 more students each time we change our seats to have the chance to use the standing desks. Along with the health benefits, my students ability to focus on work has improved. My students love the chance to stretch their legs. When we provide seating options that give our students choice and helps them focus, learning becomes more enjoyable.
