Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports (PBIS) is a proactive approach to establishing the behavioral supports and social culture needed for all students in a school to achieve social, emotional and academic success. Our students need something to look forward to; their behavior is not at its best and through learning about relationships and rules (school, laws, policies), our hope is to help them improve. Our goal is to teach students that a bad day does not last forever nor should it become part of our normal routine. This project will allow us to reward students who have displayed positive behavior for the majority of the month with a ticket to our game day. During this time classes will come to the game room for one hour to enjoy video games on the PS4 and Nintendo Switch, as well as team competitions. Students will be able to learn about various cultures through sports video games. Some students may want to sit quietly with a book on history and civics. Who says that school should not be fun? This program will hopefully encourage students to try their very best every day to be able to enjoy the benefits of doing what they are supposed to. The Nintendo Switch and video games in the game room will encourage team building, improve literacy skills, and cognitive function. Our students will learn about games children play across the world and incorporate them into our game room.
