It is difficult to imagine an environment where we do not encourage our children to grow and explore in the world of technology. A developer programs the technology our students use and since these technologies play such a large role in modern life, our students need to understand how they work for both their current education and their future job opportunities. Currently at my schoolaaa, students have the option to attend an after school Computer Club. During various sessions, students use computational thinking to complete various coding activities. Funding for this project will enable students to take coding to the next level. Using coding skills acquired in computer club from programs such as Code.org and Scratch, students will be programming Lego Mindstorm robots to complete a variety of tasks. Students will define steps to problems, build models to simulate, test and debug the solution. Students will be exposed to various programming language. In addition to the technical skills learned through the process, students will use collaboration and communication skills as they work together in teams. Time will also be spent working with schools outside of Connecticut through distance learning sessions that focus on computer programming. Furthermore, as a result of this program, students will be prepared to continue robotics courses and programs at our high school.
