Snacks Makes All the Difference
Funded Dec 4, 2024Once again, thank you so much from the bottom of me and my students hearts. I always share with my students the importance of giving back to others as modeled by the donors through their philanthropy. I always request snacks because that is what is needed to help my students get through the day. They also have snacks during their counseling session. Because the donation tends to big this allows for students to have two snacks and a water. Although I also spend my personal money when I have to I am always grateful to the donors contribution. Once again thank you from Wings Academy High School”

Funded Sep 17, 2024Thank you so much for the books. They are something that my students and I truly appreciate. I have given out some of the books to a few students and I plan to use the remaining to read during my counseling sessions.
I am trying my best to motivate students to read more because I often here many of them say I do not like reading and I know that this the direct result of the increase usage of technology. Also during the Covid 19 Pandemic there was a huge loss of learning because students did not want to want to be online at home. When they returned to school full time us educators have seen a huge decline.
So with these books I hope to motivate the students to start reading again. Once again thank you so much.”

Funded Dec 13, 2022Once again I am so grateful to the Donors who participate in the Donors Choose Platform. It reminds that there are still good people in the world who are willing to help those who are in need. Your commitment to charity is appreciated. I also want you to know that my students are forever thankful. Because of your generous gift my students will be able to come to my office any time of the day to get a healthy snack. I will also remind them of the importance of giving back.”

School Lunch Is Not Enough
Funded Sep 29, 2022Thank you again for providing my students with these much needed snacks. Everyday the students express their heartfelt thanks when they stop by my office for a snack. Sometimes in the morning they want something to drink. By lunch time or late afternoon some want a juice, water, chips and cookies.
I often think about how many of the parents don't have any extra money so the kids could buy snacks before they come to school. The parents focus on paying their bills and providing the necessities. So having the resource in the form of snacks is a blessing. So thank you once again.”

Funded Jan 28, 2022I am beyond grateful for your generosity towards my students. From the moment the donations arrived I was very excited and I started handing out the snacks to the students even if they weren't on my cohort. As I hand them out I also tell them about the Donors Choose program. I tell them about the importance of helping others and giving back to the community. When I explain the process of setting up the project the students really liked the concept. Seeing a kid face light up after receiving a snack let's me know that they appreciate it. Thank you once again for your selfless contribution to my students.”

Funded Mar 7, 2020I cannot answer this question because school was closed before I was able to administer the books through a book club I was going to start. So we were all home form March of 2020 to June of 2020. When school reopened in the fall of 2020, school was not the same due to COVID-19 Protocols. I was unable to facilitate a group where the books were going to be used nor did I get the opportunity to hand them out. So the books left at the school then I moved onto a new school. More than likely the books ended up in the school library. I really appreciate the donation.”

Funded Dec 27, 2019First let me start by saying thank you for your kind generous donation. It means so much to me and my students. Your generosity teaches my students the importance of paying it forward.
When I told my students about the donation when it arrived, many of them gladly volunteered to carry the boxes from the second floor down to my office in the basement. I let them know that people care about them.
My students know that whenever they are hungry, they can come to Ms. Patterson's office for a snack. So many of my students do not eat in the morning and the lunch isn't the best choice but that granola bar, fruit Snack and water meets their need. Thank you once again from the students at The Laboratory School of Finance and Technology.”

Funded Apr 1, 2019First I want to begin by saying thank you for funding my school project it really means a lot to me. It wasn't something I expected to happen so fast. School has just started back and I have been giving the students their organizers as I conduct group sessions. My students are in the eleventh grade and this is a very big year for them. They have to take the SAT Exam and complete four P-BAT papers. So there isn't much time for leisure. I have been communicating the importance of being organized and making the deadlines their teachers have set. The organizer will serve as a central place to write down all their homework from every class as well as to jot down important dates to remember. The students are very thankful for the donation because its an additional asset to make the eleventh grade a successful year. Thank you once again.”

A Snack Goes a Long Way
Funded Nov 8, 2018My name is Starlene Patterson and I am a School Social Worker at the Laboratory School of Finance and Technology in District 7 located in the Bronx, NY. District 7 is the poorest congressional district in the United States. I have been at this current location a little over two years as a part of the Single Shepherd Initiative. The goal of Single Shepherd Initiative is to provide addition support to the two current school Guidance Counselors. My students are in the 10th grade and I have been their working with them since the 8th grade. I will remain with them until they graduate in 2021.
When I first received the e-mail that informed me about my project being funded I was very excited. I also could not believe that the shipment arrived within 48 hours. Thankfully their were some 12th grade students willing to bring all the boxes down to my office. Because of their willingness to assist me, I provided each student with water and a snack.
I received the shipment right before my students lunch period. Often during this time, some students come to my office to eat their lunch and do some school work while other students stop by for water, fruit snack or a granola bar. As each student stopped by I would share about Donors Choose and the generosity of Mr. Berman. Many of the students were surprised and such a kind gesture. I wanted them to understand that there are still good people in the world and it is important to give to others.
In return for Mr. Berman's kindness I encouraged my students to write him and share what it meant to receive the snacks. My students did not hesitate at all and I was able to get many of them to write thank you notes.
In closing, thank you again Mr. Berman. Your generosity has helped me as well. Without hesitation, I have been spending my own money for the past two years to ensure no student of mine would not go hungry throughout the day because having a snack goes a long way. May you enjoy your upcoming holiday season.”
