I am requesting a classroom set of dictionaries because the set that we are currently using does not have all of the words needed for the grade levels that are using them. The dictionaries that we have are geared toward elementary students and are not supporting the needs of my students. The donations made to this project will not only equip my students in learning the words that they need to know for this year but will give them a firm foundation in using a dictionary in the future. The dictionaries I am requesting will be used on a daily basis. They will be used to look up new vocabulary words that the students are assigned on a weekly basis. They will also be used daily in centers where they look up words that are in the novels that we are reading. Also, students have access to the dictionaries throughout the day when they are reading and come to a word they do not know. Finally, they will be crucial in state testing at the end of the year. The students are allowed access to dictionaries in order to help them understand words that are on the test that they might not know.
