  • Reducing Covid's Effect-Building Relationships & Learning through Board Games

    Funded Oct 20, 2021

Thank you for helping me help my students during the recovery of from the pandemic. These games will allow students to be kids and to grow socially while playing. They will be catching up from their list time from the stay at home orders and now they can concentrate on both learning and being kids.”

    With gratitude,

    Mr. Isaak

  • Restocking the Classroom

    Funded Aug 13, 2019

Thank you for all you have done to help me help my students achieve. Our district has cut school budgets substantially over the last four years; many teachers have either funded their own classrooms, or sought grants and donor's choose opportunities to fund their classrooms, some have done both. Your kind donations are allowing several differ and different things to occur:

    1. It has allowed me to bring in the research of Dr Hattie and Dr Marzanno using visual thinking through the use of dry boards, interactive notebooks and post it notes in notebooks, small group settings, etc.

    2. Your supplies have been placed into every groups box so they have high lighters, tape, etc for their group projects.

    3. Every group also has bags of both dry erase markers and chart paper markers for group projects

    4. Students of the week, picked for a variety of reasons, receive a pen. The students love these pens are actively working for them.”

  • Vertical Problem Solving Using Groups

    Funded Aug 13, 2019

your generous donation has allowed me to transition all my classes to a more problem based approach and have students actively doing mathematics in all classrooms verses solely taking notes each and every day. The students love the ability to use the white boards, both the 2 ft by 3ft and the smaller ones both in small groups or individually. I have noticed some of my students use various colors to at different points in order to draw emphasis for them to portions of their solutions.

The donations of pens has allowed me to give each student of the week a pen, which they LOVE; I don't understand why but for some reason earning a pen is what is driving most of my high school students. I am, because of the research I am reading an applying using highlighters and pens of various colors to draw emphasis in notes and problems we do to help students focus.

My next steps are to continue using these materials more frequently, this is causing me to research and try to learn to flip the classroom in order to reach a greater diversity of student body.”

  • Interactive Notebooks in High School Math

    Funded Nov 5, 2018

Good morning and Thank you for your kind and generous donations! Your materials are being used daily by all my students. The receipt of the materials allowed me to restock the bins in the back of the room where paper is always available for each and every student and to keep the group bins (tape, paper, highlighter, colored pencils and colored markers) continuously stocked so students may use materials whenever they want to. I have even had kids come in before and after school to work on organizing their notebooks for class. Thank you so very much for helping me help students.

Humbly and thankful for your kindness

    With gratitude,

    Mr. Isaak

These supplies will allow me to continue doing the interactive notebooks in all of my mathematics classes. These supplies are used daily in all classes, allowing students to interact with mathematics and to personalize their notebooks, as well as build a book of learning mathematics that many take with them after graduation. A former student of mine used her notebook to survive her first year of mathematics at UCLA while she worked towards her pre-med degree. The notebook has progressed from the time I had Elena in class, till now where we try to do notes and proofs from online, giving us more time to really discuss mathematics and problem solving, reaching a broader range of student learners. This notebook empowers the student to personalize their notebook in a manner that fits their personal learning style and this is why you are seeing tape and glue sticks from a math teacher. It allows my students to keep their notebooks organized and to do activities that engage both sides of the brain leading to deeper retention of mathematics. The supplies, coupled with a blended learning approach, allow us to not only have notes, but foldables in class and spend more time working mathematics problems that have given many of my former students difficulties. My hope is to continue implementing this approach and adding on to it in the following years.
