To succeed in this new information-based and highly technological society, students need to be innovative thinkers and problem solvers. All of the materials that I am requesting are centered around units that I will be covering in my Gifted and Talented classroom with students ranging from kindergarten through twelfth grade. I am not a paper and pencil teacher. However, my goal is for students to use an engineering notebook to plan and design assigned projects such as bridge and tower designs that can withstand an interactive earthquake table. the tower design depend upon the grade level of the students. For example, buttons, Play-Doh, and sandwich bags will be used to construct towers for K-2 students. However, the older students will be constructing bridges and egg drop kits using popsicle sticks, straws, pipe cleaners, yarn, masking tape, and fabric. Also using the materials that I have requested, we will be researching and conducting experiments with insulators and conductors. Students will create and test circuits while making interactive cards!
