The materials requested for this project will go to students who have a wide range of capabilities and needs. We want learning to be a unique and engaging experience, and we think these materials will get us get closer to achieving this goal. In our classroom right now, we teach most of our lessons in small groups to maximize the learning that takes place and to individualize instruction. The balance balls will expand our flexible seating options during small group instruction. If students are not in a small group with a teacher, they have access to centers that are tailored to different learning styles. We hope to add some new centers such as the sight-word steps. The sight-word steps will offer a new way to learn sight-words and allow the students to get up and moving. In addition to our instructional time, we have built time into our schedule for sensory breaks and recess. During our sensory break time, each student gets their own sensory bin with objects intended to refocus and to alleviate frustration and anxiety. The activity mats will be utilized during sensory breaks throughout each day, and they will serve as an indoor recess station during the winter. We go outside on the playground each day to keep our students active and to give them a chance to interact with their peers. We want to provide those same experiences in the classroom! The items on my list will make our time in the classroom more worthwhile for us all. With your help, we can offer my students more options and more opportunities. Thank you for all of your support on this project!
