Mirrors and Windows: A Deeper Look Into Culture

We can't thank you enough for the generous donations of amazing books to our classroom. My students are learning about main idea and details using a variety of the texts we have been gifted. We are making inferences and responding to comprehension questions.

Everyday for an hour we have what is called our Daily 5 literacy block. Students choose a literacy based choice and we do 3 rotations during that time. My students love to read to themselves or a partner. These new books are in high demand. The kids fight for the opportunity to read something new. This has certainly sparked a love for reading in our room.

I think the best part of this entire process has been watching my EL students relate. They love seeing characters like themselves. Names like there own. And even a few books with Spanish. This warms my heart. I look forward to sharing these books as our read aloud and to hear what my kids think as they continue to finish all these new adventures.”
