Thank you so much for supporting our reading program and funding my project. The kids are going to have a blast at our "Out of this World" celebrations. The students are going to be so surprised to see all of the new games and activities. I know that your support will help motivate all of our students to continue reading throughout the rest of the school year. Our first celebration is coming up, so be on the look out for some exciting pictures. Thank you all again for your continued support.”

  • Sunshine State Books Bring Sunshine to My Classroom!

    Funded Sep 11, 2021

Just imagine a quiet classroom. Every student with a book in their hand, nose in the book. That is what our classroom is like during IDR (Independent Reading Time).

Students have enjoyed this year's SSYRA books and have even formed small book clubs to read the same book as their friends. Some students started a friendly competition to see who could be the first to read all 15 of the books. Not only are my students enjoying the books, but students are gearing up for the Battle of the Books tryouts. Students are already calling "dibs" on the books they want to be their specialty books. This would not have happened without generous people like you.

On the teacher side, I have been able to have book chats with the students as they read the books. They think we are just hanging out, but (shhh, don't tell), I am really checking their comprehension. I am able to ask questions that target the characters' motives, themes, and author's purpose. All that's possible because of you. My students and I thank you for your generosity and kindness. Thank you again!”

  • Sunshine State Books Bring Sunshine to My Classroom

    Funded Sep 16, 2020

Just imagine, a quiet classroom. Every student with a book in their hand, nose in the book. Suddenly, a student burst into giggles. Every head looks up. The giggling student quickly apologizes by stating, "She just landed on her booty in the mud." That's what my classroom has been like with my students reading the books you helped purchase.

Not only are my students enjoying the books, but I have selected my Battle of the Books team, and we are preparing for the competition. The team members have been reading the SSYRA books and pulling quotes in preparation for the battle. The team will begin rereading their "specialty" books soon, and that would not have been possible without your kind generosity.

They think we are just hanging out, but (shhh, don't tell), I am really checking their comprehension. I am able to ask questions that target the characters' motives, themes, and author's purpose. Reading is one of the most important skills a person can learn. I believe the key to reading success is finding books that interest a person. My classroom library is filled with a variety of books. The students are allowed to check those books out and take them home to read. It is very costly and difficult to continually add to my library. That is why this project is so important. It not only supports reading in the classroom and home, but it is also a way for my students to come together and represent our school in a reading competition. Getting these new books into the hands of students who do not have financial means to purchase them is the key to them becoming better readers while supporting our school reading program. Students will be able to take these books home to read and share with their families. From book tastings, to presentations, to book talks, putting the books into the hands of the students will allow all students to experience these wonderful titles.
