My students love reading, but we don't have any class sets of novels that will allow us to have class discussions. Currently, I read chapter books aloud to them, but they often need to see the words in front of them to fully experience the novel. Reading the stories aloud is good, but students often miss the unique and enriching experience the author is trying to create because the text is not in front of them.
These class set of books will allow my students the opportunity to have discussions, express their creativity, and explore various themes and topics they can relate to. I gave my students a list of books and asked them, "If we could read any book from this list, which book would you choose?" and 90% of my class wanted to read, "Wonder" by R.J. Palacio. I promised them to do everything in my power to get a class set of these books.
All of my students know that I will provide supplies for them as long as they take care of it. They respect my efforts to make my classroom a fun and engaging learning environment with unexpected surprises. These books would not only be an unexpected surprise, but a beacon of hope to illustrate that I'm not the only person who sees their full potential.
