Art to Heal
Funded Sep 16, 2021I can't thank you enough for your generosity towards my students. When we received the huge boxes of art supplies, the children were so surprised and excited. They spontaneously applauded each product as we opened them, and couldn't wait to get creative.
At first, my co-teacher and I just allowed the students to draw, cut and paste at will. They needed stress free downtime as they slowly got used to being back in school. They also needed positive affirmation and a safe way to express what they were feeling. You gave all of that to them.
Later, we began to incorporate curriculum. One of our STEAM projects was to have the students work together in small groups to plan and construct a holiday tree that could stand independently using only mystery supplies given to them in a paper bag. They planned, thought, discussed, agued and triumphed!
Due to your generosity you have made the transition back to in-person learning so much easier, and more fun for the spirited students of class 301.”
With gratitude,

Funded May 7, 2020You can't even imagine the looks of surprise and delight on the faces of my students as they told me they had received a very special package in the mail---books ! Many of my students had never owned a brand new book before, and suddenly they had three.
This year, with the sudden suspension of school, my students struggled more than ever. Isolation and uncertainty threatened their education as never before. With the gift of these books, you have sent them a way to connect to each other. Of course, we could have read online, but there was something so genuine and vital about hearing each other turn the pages, seeing each other pull books from under pillows or beds, sneaking looks ahead, or backwards in the text to make a point. My students came alive at reading time like no other time during remote learning.
As for the math manipulatives, well, they were for me. I could not fathom how to connect with the concepts we still needed to cover without being face to face with my students. Most of my students are English Language Learners or Special Education students who need hands on help and constant visual support. I knew without a doubt that they would be frustrated with trying to learn math online. As a teacher seasoned in education, but not in technology, I was struggling too. When your math manipulatives arrived and I was able to put them in the hands of my students, I knew I would be able to teach them the concepts in a way we could both relate to.”
With gratitude,
