I truly believe that everyone can make it in this country!
By reading and analyzing the book, Rich Dad Poor Dad, my goal is for my students to understand that they all have the ability to become financially successful.
Rich Dad Poor Dad is a book written by Robert Kiyosaki, a self made millionaire, who used the lessons of his father to gain financial independence. It focuses on the importance of financial literacy, and building wealth through investing in assets, while limiting liabilities.
Students will be expected to read and answer critical thinking questions at the end of each chapter and contribute their ideas during class discussion. Students will also be assigned a character analysis paper on the "rich dad" and "poor dad" after completing the book. Chapter questions and analysis paper will help reinforce key economic concepts we've learned in class, like financial literacy, entrepreneurship, the difference between an asset and a liability, the power of investing, and how to manage taxes, and debt.
Reading Rich Dad Poor Dad is also intended to bring excitement to my students about the possibility of earning and maintaining true wealth in their lifetime. In the book, there are numerous examples of people who were able to start with nothing and become millionaires, including the author himself.
While I hope to unlock my students' passion to become rich one day, this is not meant to be a get rich quick book. The book does not promise to have a can't miss investment scheme, or way to beat the stock market. Instead, it focuses on the importance of financial literacy, and being able to start thinking about how every choice we make impacts our wealth.
