Good Scientists Axolotl Questions!
Funded Oct 16, 2023Thank you so much again for your generous donation to my science classroom. It has been an exciting adventure walking my students through the process of setting up the proper environment needed to care for our axolotl. Before we are able to adopt our new class pet, students are currently learning and researching about proper care and we are working together to develop a nitrogen cycle within our aquarium, where they are assisting me in completing water checks and ensuring parameters are in range to establish this cycle. Through this process, students are working together on building collaboration skills and learning the value of following a set of procedures in order to test correctly for pH, ammonia, nitrites and nitrates.
Students have also able to learn about the nitrogen cycle in a real world experience, which is the first of many steps in helping them to see how they can apply what we're learning to their lives. They are learning the value of patience, as they are so very excited to have our new friend in the classroom, but the cycling of our aquarium will not be finished until around early January. Finally, the most exciting part in sharing this letter is that I can see how engaged and dedicated they are to this process now, so I know that they will engage that much more with our content next quarter as I tie our axolotl in with each lesson we are learning going forward! I cannot express how thankful I am for your support in bringing this project to life!”
With gratitude,
Ms. Hodges
Student Choice and Technological Empowerment
Funded Aug 3, 2020Thank you so much for your contribution to my students' education this year and years going forward! Last year, when I created this project, I never would have guess that we would be impacted by the current pandemic the way that we have been. Acquiring these headphones have made small group lessons possible when grouping students close together is not an option. My students are able to work on differentiated instruction assignments without disrupting one another. Students are able to watch videos, practice hearing scientific terminology, and collaborate on virtual science lab assignments in a Teams meeting with other students and myself from separate, distanced areas of the classroom. The funding of the project has made student learning during this pandemic much less of a challenge, and we all thank you from the bottom of our hearts!”
With gratitude,
Ms. Hodges
