Funding for this project includes: comfortable seating supplies, high-interest literature, and growth-mindset and emotional interest themed books. These materials offer a number of supports for my students. Many of the students in my classroom come to school looking for a supportive environment in which they feel comfort, love and guidance in achieving their goals. Comfortable seating will allow students to feel they have availability of learning options. My students work best when they are able to move throughout the day and learn in spaces that are determined by their personal needs. Elastic bands on desks, wobble cusions, desk risers (standing desks) and ball chairs will be used in place of standard seating to allow mobility and varied seating options for students who need movement in order to focus on learning. These seats will create a positive classroom environment in which learning is the focus. Clipboards will allow students to use varied seating in different spaces around the classroom. Literature that provides a positive message is also a key feature of providing students with a positive classroom environment. Growth mindset books such as "My Elastic Brain" and books about family and cultural differences will teach emotional wellness messages about empathy and understanding. These books will be used as read alouds to promote positive interactions between students and encourage a love for literature. Finally, beginning reader chapter books such as "Socks" will be used in literature circle and learning group time to encourage comprehension and motivation for reading. A variety of book options from Beverly Cleary to the Sports Illustrated early-reader series will allow students to determine what interests them. Many of my students are struggling readers with limited access to books at home. Availability of books in the classroom that are high interest will curate a love for reading.
