I work hard to get my students outside as much as possible. The next generation science standards promote linking the information in the classroom with other subjects and with their personal lives. I have observed that children are more focused, more engaged, and more interested when they are taught outdoors. Being Idaho, weather can change quickly and make writing outdoors a challenge. This results in sloppy writing, student frustration, and poor quality work. To remedy this situation, I am asking for 48 clipboards, 50 ponchos, 50 sit pads, and three reams of waterproof paper. This will allow them to concentrate on the environment that they are in and begin to make the connections between the outdoors and science.
