  • Make Geometry Tangible and Visual

    Funded Jun 22, 2022

Thank you for giving us manipulatives for Geometry to make learning visible and tangible! I found a new resource online where they use those very manipulatives for lab explorations, so we are able to use them all year round!

Our students felt nostalgic with the pattern blocks because they remember them from elementary school. However, their minds were blown that we can use them at a higher level in Geometry with angle measurements and quadrilateral properties.

We have not used all of the various manipulatives you gave us yet. In the spring semester, we will be using the rest on our unit for volume and surface area. All of our students will benefit from the 3D models to visualize the concepts. Thank you for supporting us!”

  • De-Institutionalizing the Classroom with the Right Furniture

    Funded Jul 28, 2022

We LOVE our new furniture! Collaboration is through the roof as students are in closer groups in tight knit circles. We use these round tables daily to solve problems in small groups.

My students were so excited to sit at their new nice tables. Students were rubbing the tops in admiration and felt a sense of pride. Students who walk by my classroom peek in and comment how they wished they were in this classroom because of the tables.

Thank you so much for making my dreams possible of creating a collaborative space that encourages student discussion. Our students and I THANK YOU for making our space beautiful. You tell us that we are worth it by your contribution!”

  • Displaying Our Students' Genius Work for Rich Discussions

    Funded Aug 11, 2021

Thank you for your generous donations to support our students' learning! The iPad is integral in our classroom for our synthesis discussions as this allows me to take photos of student group work then project them with the Apple TV so that we can discuss what we notice and draw connections. The Apple pencil helps our penmanship as we use a whiteboard app on the iPad to work out math solutions in real time.

Our students appreciate the new technology as they have complained about being able to see the physical whiteboards and still maintain social distancing guidelines. The iPad and Apple TV combo has helped us to settle down in our seats for our discussions and for all to be able to see student work magnified.

Thank you for helping us have a seamless approach to sharing student work and having rich discussions about math!”

  • Strong Visual-Spatial Reasoning Skills Linked to STEM Success

    Funded Aug 12, 2021

Our students are having so much fun with the visual-spatial games you bought for us! As you can see in the photos, every student is engaged. They are increasing their visual-spatial skills in a fun way. They even ask for more game time!

When I first introduced the game to them, they were quietly intrigued but once the first round began, they were all hooked! Some periods even wanted a competition to see who was the fastest at completing a puzzle (which the winners were students who weren't necessarily our A students). While the competition was going on, other students formed groups to work at their own pace.

Academically, this is the first year where I noticed students are doing considerably better with rigid transformations in Geometry. They are able to manipulate objects in their minds and verbalize so much better than years past. I cannot say that the games directly impacted that, but I like to think that it did. Students learn by doing and when they're having fun at the same time, the learning is more likely to stick! Thank you so much for making it happen for us!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Min

Through distance learning, our students have become adept at using technology. I want to continue using digital tools that have encouraged students to show their thinking. Tools such as Desmos have opened up doors for even the shyest and most introverted to contribute their genius to class discussions by displaying their work. An iPad coupled with an Apple TV will help me to be mobile in selecting student work to display instantly and begin whole-class discussions without delay. By donating to our project, you will help us save precious class time by helping us get to the whole-class discussions more efficiently; students consolidate and extend their learning through our whole-class discussions, which will increase student achievement.
