  • Help Us "Brew Up" Some Skills and Snacks

    Funded Nov 28, 2023

My students are utilizing the resources daily. We are able to utilize the mini fridge and microwave to properly store and warm food/treats. We utilize the color printer daily for visual instructions, advertisements, customizations, and to make flyers for the coffee shop. My students were excited to make a cup of coffee and cannot wait to take on that job. Between preparing and delivering orders, my students are excited about creating something and making a profit. We are slowly creating more and more experiences for our students to utilize the supplies properly.

One day I received an email that my project was fully funded and would be delivered within a month. Within a few days, the boxes began to come. My students were amazed by all the boxes that were delivered. We had to make several trips to the office to load and unload boxes. My students had fun sorting treats and seeing all the awesome supplies we were provided. They were amazed that some of their favorite snacks were ordered and they can earn them working in the coffee shop. They were also excited by all the new gadgets we received and being able to learn how to use them. They were most excited about the color printer to help bring things to life with a bit of color. The excitement in the classroom was electrifying.

Currently, we are doing lessons on safety and delivering coffees to deserving adults on campus. We will be opening the functioning coffee shop in March and hoping to create a membership for staff and students alike to have coffee, teas, and hot cocoa available daily. We have also been working on managing money. Learning how to count dollar bills versus cents and how to provide change to customers. The money raised from the coffee shop will be utilized to fund trips to explore around town for the students. We can earn money to go shopping, go to museums, and even arcades to reward them for all their hard work. The best part is that the students are having fun and learning great skills that they could use in the future. I will continue to support my students as they become contributing members of society.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Barrera

  • I Can Communicate Too.

    Funded Oct 11, 2018

I would like to thank you all from the bottom of my heart. I feel as if my students are usually overlooked or are given a lower standard than most. Given the right resources and guidance they have been able to show the world much more. This was able to be accomplished by your generous donations. My students are allowed extra resources and solid items and reference boards to use to communicate their wants and needs both inside and outside of the classroom. My students were delighted when they first were exposed to our new classroom materials. They saw all the colorful items, and immediately wanted to open everything. The students were allowed to look through all the materials and assisted in organizing the items throughout the classroom. It was really the push of materials needed to be able to come as far as we have with the students in such a short amount of time. All the materials are very sturdy and should last for projects and years to come.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Barrera

The majority of the students in my classroom are non-verbal, that does not mean they do not communicate. These supplies will provide my students physical items to help communicate properly with not only our staff and their classmates, but also build the skills to communicate out in the community. With these items my students will be able to adjust throughout the day and be provided visual reminders of important events. The art supplies for this project will allow these students to express themselves through art. The students will be provided markers that they can grip, colors paper to attract their attention, and model magic to create structures and work on their fine motor skills. We will be able to display these projects up around school for everyone to enjoy. My students also have extreme behaviors that require frequent breaks and calming exercises. For this items, such as the Sensory sock, sensory chews, and soothers will allow them to calm down and learn new techniques to use out in the community. The students will establish their routines with these items, as well as express their feelings and frustrations properly. By donating to our project, you will not only help to improve and increase student involvement in the classroom and positive behaviors, you will eventually increase their academic achievement. Students will be able to express themselves through art, and proper communication boards. My students will also be able to practice many fine motor skills and use some of these sensory items to promote positive behaviors. My students will love being able to express themselves through all these items. Any one of these items will be able to empower my students, but I truly need your support to make this happen. Thank you in advance.
