Science is a way to explore the world, even for students with special needs. It is important to offer students different avenues to use functional skills like critical thinking, fine motor skills, and problem-solving opportunities during each lesson. With access to additional science items, students would have the opportunity to dig deeper than just looking at a textbook, making science more fun and engaging. My goal is to continue to provide my students with what they need.
In the world of science, learning is not just about looking at the print, it is also about the hands-on experience. In order to meet the needs of my students, the items I selected would offer an environment that has print, visuals, and equipment for hands-on. If we are doing a unit on living things, my students will be able to look through a microscope to observe a cell. During a plant unit, my students can see the stages of plant life by having access to hands-on demonstration pieces. Giving my students the hands-on piece, as well as using print in the classroom, will help to enhance their learning in the classroom and make it fun.
I selected these items to enhance the science units that we already do in the classroom. Each student deserves a fun and engaging learning environment to meet his or her learning needs.
