My students need multiple opportunities to move while learning within the classroom. By allowing my students various ways of moving, they will become more engaged. When students are more engaged, they are more motivated to learn. Studies show that children who are more active have better focus. They also show faster cognitive processing, and more successful memory retention than kids who spend the day sitting still. Keeping the body active increases blood flow to the brain, thus helping in the learning process. Movement is a powerful teaching tool, and when we as teachers thoughtfully incorporate physical elements into instruction, we elevate the learning experience. Afterall, movement isn’t a break from learning; movement is learning.
