Having alternative seating options for my students gives me a chance to optimize their learning environment and gives them control over their learning by allowing them to choose a seat that meets their learning needs. These seats will also promote collaborative learning as our day is mostly spent in small groups and provide opportunities for working independently.
By giving my students more seating choices, I will not only be empowering them to make better choices for their learning style but also helping them become 21 century learners.
The authentic Spanish books will be added to our classroom library. As a second year teacher, I rely on donations, hand me downs, and out of pocket purchases. Although I have been fortunate enough to gather enough books for a small classroom library, my students deserve books that are rich in vocabulary, culture, and content. Our school library does not carry Spanish books so adding Spanish books to my classroom library would greatly impact my students learning.
As a dual immersion teacher, I rely heavily on visuals, manipulatives, and printed resources for my students to use when working independently or in a group setting. I also try to involve parents in their child's learning as well as keep them informed by sending out monthly newsletters, home resources, notes, etc. Many parents do not have access to the internet or technology so being able to use ink and paper would impact my ability to support my students and keep parents as active participants in their child's academics.
I want my students to succeed in their learning environment. I want them to feel empowered through choices and proud of their work. Through flexible seats, authentic Spanish literature and access to visual resources, I am confident they will.
