These planks will give my children the opportunity to design, build and create their own structures. I just recently decided to add some STEAM (Science+Technology+Engineering+Art+Math) activities to the media center and learned they love to build things. I have designated half of the library to these activities...I have space, now I just need the activities. I have been using recycled materials, but would love to add more materials that are not perishable. The donations to this project will help to improve my students' understanding of and competency in the properties of building and design and foster their creativity. There is no right or wrong, thus eliminating the stress of "getting it right"! All children love to create, some are just a little more hesitant than others. With this project, my children will work in teams and will be asked to think about a design, draw it, discuss possible outcomes, build their structure, and then analyze what went right/wrong, and how they could make it better. It's amazing how hands-on activities can spark a student's interest in something they might never have considered or even known existed. I have no doubt this project will produce some mini-engineers, architects, and builders.
