  • 2nd Grade Multicultural Bookworms

    Funded May 6, 2022

My students now have access to a set of multicultural books that they did not have before. Through these texts they have been exposed to people from different cultures.

They are also being exposed to texts that have people that look just like them!

In addition to exposure, I have been able to teach literacy strategies through the provided texts in my daily read alouds. Students listen as I read then turn and talk to each other to discuss the deeper meanings that many of these texts have.

My students were extremely excited to read through the texts when we received them. We chose the texts together since they are the ones who will be enjoying them to the fullest. We are so very thankful for these books, they truly help continue my students love for reading.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Del Real

  • Virtual Drawing Tool

    Funded Oct 23, 2020

I have been using the Wacom drawing tablet since October and I can truly say that it has been a life saver. I mainly use this tool during my math block to underline, draw base ten blocks, and to solve for addition and subtraction problems. It allows me to legibly write versus using a mouse or a trackpad and in 2nd grade modeled clear writing is KEY. If I am not using my drawing tablet, the kids immediately start demanding for me to STOP and connect my wacom tablet! I also use this tool to help me grade student work in all the subjects I teach (reading, math, s.s., science, SEL). The wacom drawing tool allows me to write directly on student work just as I would if I were to be in-person with all of my students. Using the tablet to grade is a HUGE time saver as well. Overall, this tool is extremely versatile and I will continue to use this even after remote learning!”

  • Seat Sacks to Hold Our Love for Reading!

    Funded Dec 20, 2019

these seat sacks have transformed our classroom. It has been an incredible gift that is GREATLY appreciated. I teared up when our project was funded. My students were surprised when they came back from lunch and recess and I placed the seat sacks on their chairs. They came in screaming! Haha :) They were so excited because they new that they finally had a space for themselves and their books. I try to create a loving environment for reading and explain to them that they should have a book with them at all moments because any moment can be reading moment! The kids love their seat sacks and have decorated their name tags and personalized them. The classroom is small and so this extra space for students to use allows for more organization in the classroom as well.

Again, thank you, so so so much. My students and my future students will be able to reap the benefits of these seat sacks. People like you are amazing examples for children like my students. Thank you with all our hearts.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Del Real

The students would really appreciate tote bags for them to carry their library books. I am also asking for stamps to help my students during their word work station. My students love to read and each child has at least 5 books with them at tables that they share. There are 6 kids at each table....six times 5 books each...well that's thirty books in the center of their table towering over them. I have tried cutting down the number of books that they check out but it is not fair to down size the love of reading that they have. They also really would love to take their books home but without the proper place to keep them, their books would easily get lost at home. The majority of my students speak a second language and because of that, they struggle with reading more than others. Using something as simple as stamps would give these students the opportunity to improve their phonics and enjoy working on learning new words. With these stamps, my students would be able to have a more interactive word work station during our guided reading rotations, motivating them to practice words that they see every day when they read. My students and I would tremendously appreciate this help. They love to read and I love to teach reading. These materials would definitely allow for my students to continue to grow and help them become the readers they can be by the end of the year. THANK YOU!
