Sitting in front of a computer all day is challenging for anyone, much more elementary school-aged students. Visual stimulation is very important to increase student engagement in eLearning. Because limiting screen time for young children is recommended, I have to be strategic about the types of instructional tools I use to support student learning in a meaningful and engaging way. eLearners need short, engaging lessons and opportunities to immediately practice what they learn. BrainPOP helps me convey a wide range of academic and social concepts to my students in a short, fun, and palatable format. My students LOVE videos and like giving and receiving immediate feedback. I plan to use BrainPOP to explore math and science concepts, and to check my students' understanding using the fun quizzes that follow each video. I will also use the BrainPOP games and other activities to extend learning. It's a win-win . . . My students will learn the concepts, and I will be able to immediately assess how they are processing what they're learning. I can even assign videos for them to watch and can capture their responses to the quizzes that follow. It is true: students learn more when they are having fun doing it. The fun BrainPOP characters, who speak with childlike voices, also "think aloud" and ask questions the way my students do. BrainPOP validates the way a child's brain processes information and will help my students digest information in succinct, manageable ways.
