iPads for Bridging Communication

Funded Dec 13, 2018

Our classroom received two new iPad minis a week ago thanks to your generosity!! They are the perfect size for my young preschool students. I have already loaded them with learning apps that the children are using in our technology center. They were so excited to hear about their new learning tools. We can now have a small group of children working in the same area together. The apps that we use are all educational and coincide with themes that we are learning about. They teach the children concepts that are developmentally appropriate (colors, shapes, letters, numbers, counting, sorting, etc.) in a fun way that uses current technology.

I have also loaded an app that has turned the iPad minis into augmentative communication devices. We have several students in our class that are nonverbal. They are learning how to express themselves through pictures that give them a voice with this app. In a very short time, they are already able to greet their friends, ask for items, respond to questions, and interact during play and other activities using pictures that I have loaded into files for them. My staff and I are thrilled to give our students such great tools in our classroom. The children are super excited to have a voice!!! I will continue to add folders filled with pictures that will allow them to use language related to our activities and play centers. I can't wait to see how much of an impact your generosity will truly make by the end of this school year!!!”

With gratitude,

Ms. Provost
