  • Augmented Reality to the Rescue!

    Funded May 8, 2023

I cannot begin to explain how excited my students and I are to finally be able to use my virtual reality program. Running to the store and buying a new computer that was compatible was not in the cards. Your kind donation made it happen for my students.

As soon as I tell them that it is time to choose a letter, their faces light up! They know that once lunch is over it is time for their favorite part of the day!

Having a computer that I can depend on, one that I know will turn on when I press the power button, and one that doesn't shut down in the middle of a lesson has been a game changer. Thank you so much for the donation. It is going to be a great year!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Guillen

  • Lego Therapy

    Funded May 3, 2022

Thank you so much for your generous donation. I begin each day with centers where each table/team is assigned a specific bucket. One bucket is practicing letters, one bucket is practicing letter sounds and another is practicing math concepts. The math centers final "job" is designing using the Lego table. This is by far the class favorite!

Every day multiple students ask me if they are working with numbers/math! You helped build the excitement to learn!

There is not one student who has not enjoyed the Lego table. Thanks to you, my students love building, designing and creating!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Guillen

Students will be able to improve their fine motor skills through play. Connecting the bricks with precision and detail strengthens fine motor skills and improves hand-eye coordination. Picking up LEGO pieces with their fingers builds muscles and skill your child may need when holding and controlling a pencil to write or draw. One of the main aspects of our LEGO® play is that children can work collaboratively in a small group to create something together. All children are given a set role; one week they may be the Builder, the next the Architect, the next the Supplier and then the Director! Children are taught special rules for each role and respect and listen to each other, according to whose role needs to come into play and when. The collaborative teamwork encourages joint focus, sharing, reinforces positive behavior and social contact. Social skills and conventions are encouraged and reinforced by the facilitator. The following of instructions, deciphering order, understanding quantity, symmetry, patterns and location of the bricks, helps children to develop on their mathematical skills and spatial awareness and encourages them in developing how to problem solve and come up with new ideas. Students are also able to create models, carry out investigations, and improve their engineering skills.
