I have a busy, distracted mind and have learned that by keeping my body busy on a wobble chair, my mind can focus on the tasks at hand. I have a personal wobble chair at school to help me focus and I have a line of students everyday asking to borrow it to help them focus. I would like to provide my classroom with 3 wobble chairs so that more students can benefit from the use of a wobble chair. Additionally, I have several students who prefer to stand and work, but my very used lectern I had brought in unfortunately broke last month. A standing desk will be much studier and support these students. And there is research to support this! Edutopia states, "Providing the Learning Environment That Kids Need Flexible classrooms give students a choice in what kind of learning space works best for them, and help them to work collaboratively, communicate, and engage in critical thinking. Since implementing flexible classrooms, Albemarle County Public Schools have noticed that: Their students' grades have improved. Their students seem happier and more engaged. Their students are participating more and having more invigorating conversations. Most importantly, flexible seating helps students become more prepared for the real-world. When they go off to college and pursue careers, they will need to find a place to study and work that works for them. We're starting to prepare for that now in eighth grade!
