"Be Like Bob!"
Funded Nov 17, 2021These third graders were so excited to paint on canvas and perhaps make some "happy accidents" like Bob Ross. They practiced a lot of fine motor skills using large brushes, fan brushes and palette knives. They explored different painting techniques and kept a positive attitude when things got challenging. They were super troopers when it came to cleaning all this acrylic paint in the brushes in only three sinks and seven minutes before class ended too!
Did I mention class is only 40 minutes long? The kids were always enthusiastic to begin again each week. They cheered each other along when their "happy trees" might have looked a little sad or the mountains started to look like volcanos. But they became problem solvers and fixed their landscapes to look the way they wanted.
I felt especially proud when these artists brought their families to the district wide art show and I overheard exclamations by parents and strangers alike on how marvelous these paintings looked, and " these were painted by third graders?!"
Your donations created a lot of joy and smiles, and an experience that they will remember forever.”

Climb Every Mountain.
Funded Jan 10, 2019I can't thank you enough for funding this project. This is my first time receiving a grant!
My students gasped when I opened the box and I explained we were getting a rock climbing wall!
Construction has been slow on putting the finger and foot holds onto the brick wall. Weather, maintenance schedules being busy, and testing with students has interfered. The vibration of the drilling in the walls made too much noise for students to concentrate during ISTEP.
But students are eagerly anticipating their first climb next week. They walk past the construction on the way to recess and they discuss how they are going to climb, or a few told me they will design an obstacle course involving the rock climbing wall.
SCE is a k-4 building and this is a great way for students to develop their muscles and motor skills and get alternative exercise. Thank you!”
