  • Supplies to Support Mental Health

    Funded Sep 10, 2024

Thank you so much for your support with my project. Thanks to your generosity, my students have had a more positive start to this year. One of the best gifts that were given to my students were the privacy shields for tests and quizzes. So many students request to use them because it helps them to feel less stressed out during stressful assessments. We were so surprised by how many students loved these!

Another great addition to our classroom has been the lights that we have hung up around. Because our school unfortunately does not have windows, decorating the rooms is vitally important to helping to make the space a more enjoyable place to be in. The lights around the room allow us to turn of one of the hard florescent overhead lights and still have ample lighting in the classroom for students to be successful.

Thank you again - your generosity is so appreciated!!!!!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Menchini

  • Cool Seating for Cool Students

    Funded Oct 10, 2018

I just wanted to express my sincerest gratitude for all of your contributions to our classroom. Because of your generosity, my co-teacher and I were able to not only purchase several different flexible seating options, but also four round tables to replace some of the old, rectangle tables that were in our classroom. These tables have truly helped facilitate and improve group discussions, and have provided us with additional space to walk around and access our students easily.

Our students are constantly using the exercise balls and other flexible seating options, which have proved time and time again to help even our most active students with their focus and attention, especially when they are independently reading. I was talking with one student the other day, and I asked him if there was something specific that any of his teachers did that really helps him; something that he wished that all of his teachers did. He told me that he wished that all of his teachers had different types of seating in their classrooms, because he sees how helpful it is for himself and his classmates. It seems like something so small and insignificant, but even the littlest changes to help students feel as comfortable as possible truly make a big difference in an ICT classroom.

We are currently in our non-fiction unit, where our students are a part of "book clubs" made up of 5-6 students who are all reading the same book. Our round tables have been essential to facilitating these group discussions, and the flexible seating allows for our students to quickly and easily move from one area of the room to the next.

Thank you again for your support of public education! You all have genuinely helped to make a huge impact in our classroom.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Menchini

My amazing co-teacher and I would love to provide our students with a variety of materials in our classroom that will aide their learning. We have been working hard to acquire all different types of alternative seating arrangements so that our students have a choice in where and how they feel like they can learn best. Currently my students are choosing from a variety of options in our room, including an exercise ball, stools, beanbag chairs, a standing desk, or laying on a mat with a clipboard. We have noticed, and our students have expressed, that them being able to choose where they complete their work improves their focus and engagement in their work tremendously. The products I have selected will help my students by giving them additional choices for them to sit. I have requested additional exercise balls (since we currently only have 1 and it is VERY popular!), stools for small group work, mats for us to expand our lay-down area, weighted lap pads that help to reduce anxiety, and cushions for additional floor seating. Being able to own your learning and feel comfortable with how you learn is an empowering experience. We seek to foster their awareness of their diversity as learners through transforming our classroom to meet the needs of our students and help them grow as students and as humans!
