Today's students need web-based tools and knowledge of collaborative sharing environments using real world technology. Using Google docs, students can document and present their research findings through a variety of media (video, slide show, spreadsheets, etc.) Throughout the year, inquiry based learning will be implemented as a way for students to question at a higher level and allow their interests to drive their learning. Students will be investigators, questioners, researchers, and sleuths. One particular activity students will engage in is inquiry circles. In groups, students will develop a general understanding of a topic and generate open-ended questions for further research. The group will then use the chrome books to research the question of their choice. After the group records their findings, they will create a final product to present to their classmates. This will be accomplished using graphic sources required of a computer. For example, students will use their own creativity to build or develop charts, diagrams, maps, tables, graphs, etc. We currently do not have laptops designated for our classroom. The school has laptop carts that must be checked out and are in high demand and often unavailable. Giving students the opportunity to chrome books on a daily basis allows students to be active participants in their own learning and prepare them for their future in a modern world.
