Our English Department is leading a cross-curricular project for students based around the musical, "Dear Evan Hansen". Students will read the play in their English classes and discuss identity and other themes from the play. Students will then write a poem about their own identity, and will work in their art and multimedia classes to create an artistic element. This will culminate in a field trip to watch Dear Evan Hansen performed live in Seattle. Reading the play beforehand will provide context for students, will engage struggling readers, and will integrate the arts into multiple classes. This will also create a greater sense of community throughout our school.
