My goal is to expose my students to a variety of literature that will help them to become life long avid readers. "The Hate U Give" is a novel that has themes and current conflicts that my students will be able to relate to. Thus, they will become even more engaged learners. Research has shown that engaging students in the learning process increases their attention and focus, motivates them to practice higher-level critical thinking skills and promotes meaningful learning experiences. It is powerful to have students discussing relevant, engaging literature and I believe that reading this novel will provide my students with that opportunity. I want to develop my students into critical thinkers that will impact their futures.
