  • Rebuilding After Hurricane Harvey

    Funded Oct 9, 2017

Thank you for giving to my classroom. The laptops are a huge hit in the writing center. The students are eager to have a turn on the laptops. The thought of getting a chance to play grammar games at their desk is so enticing that they work diligently to finish assignments.

The use of the laptops brings my classroom into the 21st century. The students are accustomed to playing video games at home on game systems, so the laptops keep the classroom up to date with modern technology. They feel like they are playing for fun while learning grammar. An added advantage is the ability to type their writing ideas on the laptop and save them for later. For several students the idea of typing instead of writing on paper is just the needed spark they were looking for.

I am anxious to see the impact this has on our test results. The laptops definitely add a new dimension to my classroom. It can only lead to positive results, and I can add more next year.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. McDaniel

  • Reading Goes on After Hurricane Harvey!

    Funded Sep 18, 2017

I greatly appreciate your donation to my classroom. After Hurricane Harvey flooded our school, we were forced to relocate to a new location. Unfortunately, my new classroom was lacking storage space. I was in need of a library cart for the many books that I had received from other donors. I also did not have enough bookshelves to organize my classroom resources.

I am now able to use the library cart to separate my book by genre. The students are able to easily sort through and find a book to read. The mini book shelf is just the right size to store student journals, workbooks, and games. Your generosity and caring has made this experience a lot easier to cope with the loss of my own materials. Thanks again.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. McDaniel

  • Hurricane Harvey Ruined My Room!

    Funded Sep 14, 2017

I want to thank you for helping to equip my classroom with a utility cart, an easel, language arts games, and numerous books. Using the easel makes it so much easier for me to use chart paper to draw anchor charts to put up in the classroom. The grammar books are used to deliver my mini lesson to the students in such a way as to attract and keep their attention. The bins and utility cart provide the perfect storage area for the books.

The build a sentence game is invaluable in helping the ESL students practice creating detailed sentences. Because of Hurricane Harvey, I was not able to salvage my old teaching materials when we moved to this new location. Your generosity has enabled me to have material to help teach my lessons.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. McDaniel

  • Hurricane Harvey Won't Keep Us From Reading!

    Funded Sep 13, 2017

Thank you so much for the funding to help buy materials for my classroom. It has been quite a change for us since so many of our books and resources were damaged during Hurricane Harvey. The new sets of books and bins have enabled me to build a new classroom library. My ESL students enjoy being able to practice reading in English with new books.

The parts of speech books with the vivid pictures and rhyming words make my grammar lessons fun . My students are also able to use those books as resources when they need extra help because they are loaded with examples that are easy to understand.

The history books about Texas help bring my social studies lesson to life. We can read about particular events or people in Texas history. Learning is more fun if there are books to supplement the lesson. The students who are eager to extend their learning may do so with these books.

Again, I want to let you know how much we appreciate your kindness and generosity in helping to rebuild my classroom.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. McDaniel

  • Point Us in the Write Direction!

    Funded Aug 29, 2016

Donors Choose is such an invaluable resource for my students. It's amazing to see the joy on their faces when I explain that people care enough about their education to donate money for games and supplies. In my tutorial class, the students ask every day if they can play the games. What's so great about it is that they are actually learning while having fun! They are motivated to learn. Donors Choose has allowed me to purchase several materials which help to differentiate instruction. I am able to help the newcomers as well as those who only need reinforcement. They can learn to create basic sentences or write summaries after having read a current event article. There will be plenty of learning going on in my room now thanks to the generosity of my donors.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. McDaniel

  • If You Can Speak It, You Can Write It.

    Funded Jul 14, 2014

My class and I can't thank you enough for your generosity. When I showed my students the materials that were donated to our classroom, they were amazed that someone who had never met them would care enough to give money in order to help with their education.

One of the resources that they absolutely enjoy is the subscription to Scholastic News. They wait with anticipation for the new edition to arrive. It helps to expose them to vastly different people, cultures, and current events. Things that they otherwise would have minimal knowledge of are now available to them.

Having these teaching materials tremendously help my ELL students. I was able to buy tools that specifically aid my newcomer students who know virtually no English. Now, learning the language is a little more fun and interesting. The vocabulary cards and flip charts allow the students to increase their grade level vocabulary which will benefit them greatly on the state tests.

Again, I'd like to express my appreciation and gratitude for your kindness. It makes a great difference knowing that there are people who care about my students as much as I do. You can trust that we are making the most of the gifts we were given.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. McDaniel

  • Doing Things the Write Way

    Funded Aug 29, 2013

I would like to thank each of you for your generosity. Your donation made it possible for my students to get new games, headphones, and workstations for the classrooms.

My students were absolutely thrilled when I showed them the materials that came from Donors Choose. It was hard for them to believe that total strangers cared enough to give money for our classroom. They have been excited to use the games to learn about language arts. They are learning but also having fun.

I have consistently used the centers and games in my tutorials sessions. One student who is a newcomer to this country, has been able to create simple sentences while using the games. She is eager to play because it's fun and she can learn English at the same time.

You can rest assured that your donation has made a difference in my students' lives. They get to see that people do care and that we all want them to be successful.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. McDaniel

  • Fourth Graders Doing The Write Thing

    Funded Oct 10, 2012

I would like to thank each of you for your generous donation to my classroom. The students were so excited to have the materials to aid with their learning. Now, as my students put it, they can have "some fun games" to play at the workstations.

Each of the items purchased has allowed my ELL students to learn and practice the English language in their writing, reading, and speaking. More importantly, they have fun while learning. Because of your willingness to help, I've been able to purchase a variety of materials to meet the different learning styles in my classroom.

I never would have been able to afford to buy all of these necessary learning tools on my own, so I sincerely offer you my heart felt thanks. You can be assured that your generosity has helped aid in the education of each of my students this year and in years to come. Thank you, again!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. McDaniel

  • It's Now or Never!

    Funded Dec 23, 2008

I truly appreciate having my request funded. It is great to know that there are people who are willing to help where there is a need. Unfortunately not all students can afford to buy books, so I have to find other means to purchase supplies. Every child deserves the best that we can give in order to further their education. DonorsChoose is great resource. Again, thank you very much.

    Sincerely,

    Mrs. ”

  • Through A 3rd Grader's Eyes

    Funded Dec 17, 2007

My students will be so surprised and grateful that someone cared enough to donate this expensive material for them to use. This opens up a whole new world for them to explore. As adults, we see things from a different perspective than a 3rd grader. Now, I can see what they see, and what they think is important to share with others. Thank you so much for caring about our kids”

I teach 4th grade at an inner city school in Texas. The teachers at my school are committed to doing "whatever it takes" to help our students achieve. My school is located in an urban area where the predominate language spoken is Spanish, but our students test in English. Thus I have an urgent need of materials to help the students learn to read, speak, and write in English.
