Please help my students prepare for a great school year. They missed several months of personal interaction and learning last year due to the pandemic and have spent over 2 months of the beginning of the school year via digital learning. In the past, a lot of materials were able to be shared. However, now because of the COVID 19 virus, keeping students safe is of the utmost importance. Due to this, past practices need to be changed. Students can no longer share materials and that includes the reusable rewards I had in my Treasure Box. In our classroom, we do a lot of projects to demonstrate and apply our learning. These projects require materials such as markers, crayons, erasers, notebooks, and other supplies that will need to be replenished throughout the year.
With the purchase of these materials, each student will have their own supplies at their desks, eliminating the need to share supplies. With the gift of the supplies on my list I will be able to give each student individual math & reading tool kits where I can print out and laminate number lines, number bond charts, place value charts, etc. making them reusable. My students will each be able to have their own notebook for morning writing and I will be able to tape off areas in the classroom for social distancing and to keep student item separated.
I contribute to my class supplies from my own pocket every year, however with new policies and procedures in place, the expense for every student to have individual kits is a bit overwhelming. Providing children with the necessary supplies to participate in school promotes learning, encourages self-esteem and helps kids be successful.
