My students have to deal with many challenges at home, which influences their learning and cause them to not be able to focus at school. I have students who struggle staying on task. Most of the time they move around the classroom, standing up or sitting on their knees during my teaching time. Research have shown that children need to move. When students have flexible seating it increases oxygen flow to the brain, and it helps their mind be more alert and focused. A student who does not feel comfortable might not be able to be productive. When students feel comfortable they are able to work and to concentrate. Also, not only will flexible seating help students stay on task, but it will also help them keep building a positive community, since it will encourage them to share with their classmates and take turns. My project includes wobble chairs, lap desks, and bouncing chair. I have requested wobble chair and bouncing chairs for students to stay at their desks and able to move at the same time. I also requested the lap desks because it gives students variety options to work on Chromebooks or on their writing. . A 2012 study from the University of Minnesota found that students participated 48 percent more in discussions in a classroom with collaborative group seating versus traditional lecture-style seating, and also improved their performance on standardized tests. By having flexible seating in my classroom it will help our learning be fun and exciting!
