  • Headphones for Math Class

    Funded Sep 7, 2023

By fostering a targeted and individualized learning environment, headphones have greatly enhanced the math education of students with disabilities. Due to background noise and other distractions, many students with disabilities—such as those with auditory processing difficulties, attention deficit disorders, or autism spectrum disorders—find it difficult to focus in regular classroom settings. These pupils can focus more intently on their work by isolating distracting noises using headphones. Furthermore, headphones may be used with audio-based learning tools and software and frequently include noise-canceling capabilities, which creates a more regulated and immersive experience that is tailored to their individual needs.

Additionally, headphones make it easier to use educational apps and assistive technologies that provide audio instructions, interactive learning, and real-time feedback. These resources are especially helpful for students who struggle with reading or comprehending written material. These kids can access and interact with math knowledge in a more easily understood format thanks to audio-based learning. For example, interactive math games can walk users through difficult ideas step-by-step, and text-to-speech software can read problems aloud. In addition to enhancing understanding and retention, this individualized method gives disabled pupils more self-assurance and enthusiasm, which improves their overall performance in math class.”

  • Materials for Math Class

    Funded Jul 17, 2023

Headphones have significantly improved the learning experience for students with disabilities in math class by creating a focused and personalized learning environment. Many students with disabilities, such as those with attention deficit disorders, autism spectrum disorders, or auditory processing issues, struggle to concentrate in typical classroom settings due to background noise and other distractions. By using headphones, these students can block out extraneous sounds, allowing them to concentrate better on their tasks. Additionally, headphones often come with noise-canceling features and can be used with audio-based learning tools and software, providing a more immersive and controlled environment that caters to their specific needs.

Furthermore, headphones facilitate the use of assistive technologies and educational apps that offer auditory instructions, interactive lessons, and immediate feedback. These tools are particularly beneficial for students who have difficulty reading or processing written information. Audio-based learning allows these students to access and engage with math content in a format that is easier for them to understand. For instance, text-to-speech software can read problems aloud, while interactive math games can provide step-by-step guidance through complex concepts. This personalized approach not only helps in improving comprehension and retention but also boosts confidence and motivation among students with disabilities, leading to better overall performance in math class.”

  • Math at Your Fingertips

    Funded Sep 29, 2022

As a special education teacher, I firmly believe in the importance of incorporating iPads into small-group instruction. iPads offer endless possibilities to support and engage students with diverse learning needs. These devices provide access to a wide range of educational apps that can be personalized to meet each student's unique requirements and abilities. The interactive nature of iPads enables students to actively participate in math lessons, explore concepts through visual and auditory cues, and receive immediate feedback. The accessibility features available on iPads empower students with disabilities or learning difficulties to access the curriculum more independently, fostering their confidence and motivation. Moreover, iPads facilitate collaboration and communication among students, promoting social interactions and peer learning. The use of iPads in small group instruction not only enhances students' mathematical skills but also nurtures their overall academic growth, self-esteem, and sense of belonging in the classroom community.”

  • Essential Toiletries for Middle Schoolers

    Funded Aug 28, 2022

Students were able to access the toiletries without being able to ask for permission to do so. Being able to take what you need, leads them to see that they need to take what they need and leave some for the rest.

Upon having conversations with the students about appearance and hygiene, their confidence level started to go up, and began to feel better about themselves. Furthermore, several parents reached out to give their gratitude for this initiative because they also used some of the products in their home since it was accessible to students to take home.

I am looking forward to continuing this project next year.”

  • Math Small Group Board

    Funded Aug 2, 2022

We wanted to take a moment to sincerely thank you for your support and generous funding of our project to provide a dry-erase board for small group instruction. Your contribution has made a significant impact on the success of our program, and we are grateful for your partnership.

The dry-erase board has provided a valuable tool for me to use in small-group instruction, allowing them to customize lessons and engage students in a more interactive and dynamic way. We have seen an improvement in student learning and engagement, and we know that this would not have been possible without your support.

Thank you again for your generosity and for believing in the importance of our work. Your kindness and support are greatly appreciated.”

  • Let's Take a Chill Pill

    Funded Aug 30, 2019

Our students are all within the Autism Spectrum Disorder thus creating a set of challenges for them that are not like any other student in a school. Our students have a difficult adjusting to schedule changes, lack of consistency, and or crowded hallways. Your donations created a safe space where students can self- regulate and manage their emotions and return to the learning environment within a considerable amount of time.

Also, these donations afforded the opportunity for students to have flexible seating arrangements where they can choose where they want to sit.”

    With gratitude,

    Mr. Colon

  • Let's Talk About It!

    Funded Aug 19, 2019

Thank you for your donations. Your donations have made a tremendous impact since I am able to capture moments of the students' learning and later confer with them about their progress.

Students are able to write on the IPAD and record themselves while they are working both independently and in groups.

My students struggle with self confidence and having this tool made available to them by your donations has been immeasurable for their confidence boost. I have always wanted my students to have an equitable education and this is a start to accomplishing that goal.”
