Headphones On, Noise Out, Ready to Test
Funded Apr 5, 2024I hope that this message finds you well. We have successfully completed this year's MCAP testing. All of our students in grades 3rd-8th were provided with colorful heaphones for testing, thanks to you!
The benefits of using headphones during school testing were numerous. By using headphones, students were able to focus on their test without any background noise or distractions, which can go a long way toward helping improve their concentration and comprehension of the test questions.
Headphones also provided a sense of privacy and individuality, which increased confidence and reduced anxiety in students who were self-conscious about taking the various assessment. By putting on a pair of headphones, students were able get inside their heads and tune out the rest of the world, which helped them de-stress about being in a testing environment. So many of them gave a thumbs up at the end of sessions.
Your donation of headphones helped enhance my students' overall testing experience by reduced distractions, increased concentration and focus, and allowed for a more personalized learning environment. Many students reported that they felt that they did well. Due to being an open-spaced school, classes that are located within the common area of the cafeteria, was able to test in silence.”

Be a Super Hero!
Funded Jan 27, 2024While summer planning, we wanted to do something special around Valentine's Day, such as events for boys and their mothers and a daddy-daughter dance, but decided it was more inclusive to have one special event for all students school-wide. We felt that many of our students would be excluded because many do not have a mother or father in their lives, but they do have a hero.
With the wonderful donation from those who donated through DonorChoose, our first Superhero Date Night was a great success. The donation of Super Hero decorations, capes, and mask allowed our staff, parents and students leap tall buildings together in their relationships, something we believe is beneficial to all involved. This was a fantastic opportunity for students to bond with someone they see as a role model. Everyone's schedule is so busy that to have an opportunity to spend time one on one with someone they admire, it's important to carve out that time.
In addition to the superhero décor (table clothes, backdrop, balloons, and wall decorations, we provided capes and masks for photos in front of the backdrop. Principal Walker and I came dressed as super heroes as well and brought our children along. When everyone entered, they were full of giggles and quickly put on their capes and mask. One student said, that he is going to wear his cape everyday just like Ms. King, our school counselor (she wears a cape everyday).
During the event, there were nothing but smiles. Hero after hero thanked us for allowing them to be a parent of the event. There was a 6th grader who cried, because she wanted her mother to be there. Two female heroes, went to here and calmed her down. Before long, she was dancing and smiling. They exchanged numbers to stay in contact.
As a community our intent was to recognize that we all have someone in our lives that support us. Our theme this school year is D.A.R.E to SOAR. And with heroes, they lift us up to help us soar to exceptional heights. The impact of your donation has allowed us to uplift our scholars and charge the people of scholars look up to, to show up and help them SOAR.”
With gratitude,
