It is my desire to give students authentic voice and make them feel they have choices in their classroom. This way they feel appreciated. Furthermore, this positively impacts their quality of work. Students apply more effort because they feel valued and that their opinion matters. Flexible seating helps to break up the monotony of desk sitting. It will afford students more mobility around the classroom as is necessary for active students. Students are validated in that they do have choices and can make decisions in their classroom. Giving students choices can make all the difference in motivation and overall engagement. They can take ownership of their learning in a comfortable environment, whether they are quietly reading to themselves on beanbag chairs in the reading nook or in strengthening skills on wobble chairs in our small groups!
