The students in my K-1st grade Autism program learn in different ways including dramatic play, sensory exploration, physical movement, music, and many more. Many of these students need physical movement and sensory breaks through out their day to help them focus and continue learning. This Color-Changing Light Table will give each student an opportunity to explore their senses and learn through a variety of sensory options. The more the students are able to touch the materials, the more they are able to learn. This table will also encourage students language by describing what they feel. My students have sensory breaks integrated into their day to promote self regulation and provide sensory stimulation. Sensory exploration is also a way for students to increase their fine motor skills with the use of tongs, scoops, as well as picking up small objects. Students with special needs sometimes have poor fine motor skills which might make writing, cutting, and coloring difficult. Having a Color-Changing Light Table would help my Autism program during our sensory activities, breaks, and explorations!
